COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Danni König scored two goals as OKC Energy FC picked up a 2-1 win against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks Saturday afternoon at Sand Creek Stadium. Energy FC (1-0-1) got its first win of the season as the Switchbacks fell to 0-2-0.

König’s first goal of the season came in the 35th minute after Chuy Sanchez’s initial shot hit the crossbar, hit the line without going across and König was there to put home the rebound. Energy FC outshot the Switchbacks 9-2 in the opening half and took the 1-0 lead in the locker room at halftime.

A bevy of cards were issued in the 56th and 57th minutes as Colorado Springs’ Jordan Burt received his second yellow card of the match and was sent off. Nevertheless, the 10-men Switchbacks were able to even the score at 1-1 as Mike Seth capitalized on a defensive lapse in the 68th minute.

König had several additional opportunities to find the back of the net during the match, including three chances in the final 15 minutes. With just one minute remaining in stoppage time, Michael Thomas’ header found König’s foot for his second goal of the match and secured the 2-1 win for Energy FC.

Evan Newton made just one save on the afternoon, while Switchbacks FC goalkeeper Samir Badr had six. Energy FC outshot Colorado Springs 17-8 for the match.

Energy FC returns to action on Saturday, April 18, against Seattle Sounders FC 2 in the home opener at the newly renovated Taft Stadium. The Switchbacks will be on the road next Saturday, April 11, against Real Monarchs SLC.
