SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Orange County Blues FC earned its first win on the road against the 2014 USL champion Sacramento Republic FC on Friday night at Bonney Field, earning a 2-1 victory despite playing down a man for the majority of the second half.

It marked only the second loss ever at Bonney Field for Sacramento Republic FC, which is now 4-3-0 on the season. Orange County improved to 3-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 on the road.

Orange County captain Didier Crettenand scored just seconds into the second half to take a lead and the Blues never looked back. Denzel Slager provided Orange County’s other tally.

Republic FC’s lone goal came from captain Justin Braun off of a James Kiffe assist in just the seventh minute to take an early 1-0 lead.

Dutch forward Slager gave Orange County some momentum shortly before halftime, outrunning Republic FC’s defense and netting his first goal of the season in the 43rd minute.

After the break, Crettenand shot the ball past former Blues goalkeeper Patrick McLain off of a pass from Christofer Ramirez.

Orange County had to play down a man when Luka Petricevic received a straight red card after a studs-up tackle in the 59th minute. A sturdy Blues back line of Jimmy Turner, Romeo Filipovic, Brenton Griffiths and Josh Suggs held strong for 30 minutes to keep the Blues ahead and take home the victory.

Sacramento has a quick turnaround with a road match against Real Monarchs SLC on Wednesday, April 29, at Rio Tinto Stadium. Orange County next travels to face Seattle Sounders FC 2 on Friday, May 1, at Stafire Sports Stadium.
