CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy II defeated the Austin Aztex 2-1 at StubHub Center’s Track and Field Stadium to earn their first victory of the season.

Forward Ariel Lassiter and midfielder Raul Mendiola each scored a goal as Los Dos moved to 1-3-1. Touray Sainey scored the lone goal for Austin, which dropped to 2-3-0.

Lassiter scored in his second straight match when he opened the scoring with a 65th-minute goal. Midfielder Alejandro Covarrubias played a long ball over top to Mendiola, who calmly played the ball back to an oncoming Lassiter before the forward cut inside to his left and launched a perfect curling shot past a helpless Cody Laurendi. Mendiola’s assist is his fourth of the season, which leads the USL.

Following the Los Dos goal, Austin answered back late in the match as Sainey got on the end of a loose ball inside the Galaxy 18 before tapping in the equalizer.

In the 84th minute, Los Dos found their first game-winning goal of the season courtesy of Mendiola. LA Galaxy Academy product Ryo Fujii found space outside the 18 before playing through Mendiola, who cut the ball back to create room in front of goal before launching in the winner. It was the Galaxy homegrown player’s first goal this season.

The Galaxy II withstood late offensive pressure from Austin to finish out the game with three points.
