Head coach Alan Koch has a young and exciting group of Whitecaps FC prospects on his squad. Only one player on the ‘Caps USL roster is older than 24 – captain and Port Coquitlam, BC native Tyler Rosenlund.

In addition to the USL roster, WFC2 also feature a number of players from the MLS squad. Among the MLS players who have already featured this season are goalkeepers Marco Carducci and Paolo Tornaghi, defenders Christian Dean, Tim Parker, and Ethen Sampson, midfielders Kianz Froese and Ben McKendry, and striker Caleb Clarke

The ‘Caps earned their first ever win in their second match of the season when they defeated Austin Aztex 3-0 on the road, with Clarke scoring the first goal.

On Sunday, WFC2 look to get off to a hot start at home as two of Canada’s three USL sides go head-to-head.

TORONTO FC II

Like Whitecaps FC, Toronto FC are also fielding a second team in USL for the first time this season.

The Reds are led by head coach Jason Bent, who started as an academy coach with the club back in 2008 before becoming an assistant coach with the MLS side from 2011 to 2014.

After a season opening defeat at Charleston Battery, TFC II defeated FC Montreal (Montreal Impact’s USL side) for their first win. Most recently, TFC II fell 4-1 to New York Red Bulls II.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

WFC2 No. 46, Brett Levis – The young Canadian from has looked lively in attack early on this season as he begins his professional career with WFC2. Thunderbird Stadium has been kind in the past to the native of Saskatchewan, including a goal against Whitecaps FC with Victoria Highlanders FC in the 2013 PDL season. At the University of Saskatchewan, Levis led the Canada West conference with nine goals in 2014 and was named a First Team All-Canadian.

TFC II No. 22, Jordan Hamilton – A natural striker who has been rising through the Canadian soccer system. Hamilton led Canada’s U-20 national team with three goals at the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship tournament. While on loan from Toronto FC to USL side Wilmington Hammerheads FC last season, Hamilton scored five goals in 11 matches. The TFC Academy product scored the first ever goal for TFC II in their season opener at Charleston Battery.

Following Sunday’s match in Vancouver, WFC2 welcome Seattle Sounders FC 2 (S2) to Thunderbird Stadium next Sunday, April 26. Kickoff will be at 3 p.m. PT.
