SANDY, Utah  - Real Monarchs SLC opens its inaugural season home slate Wednesday, welcoming fellow USL expansion side Portland Timbers 2 to Rio Tinto Stadium for a 7 p.m. MT kickoff. Wednesday’s match will be broadcast live on RealMonarchs.com, Real Monarchs YouTube page, and ESPN700 AM Radio.

Real Monarchs (0-1-1, 1 point, 10th West) enters 2015 with 13 other USL expansion teams, six of which are also MLS affiliates. Monarchs first head coach Freddy Juarez has assembled a team of 17 players signed to Real Monarchs contracts, with the possibility of Real Salt Lake loanees that can join the Monarchs on a per-game basis to bolster his squad.

Wednesday’s match is the second consecutive match between the clubs, after T2 defeated the Monarchs 3-1 in their last match back on March 29th. T2 won decisively two weeks ago as Kharlton Belmar scored a brace with a goal either side of halftime.

The Monarchs scored their first goal in club history when FW Coco Navarro stripped a T2 defender and slotted it past the goalkeeper in the 59th minute.

Guyanese international Emery Welshman returns from International Duty this week having missed Real Monarchs’ first 2 matches. Welshman started the final international friendly for the Golden Jaguars in their 2-0 win over Grenada, which followed a 2-0 win over St. Lucia earlier in the week.

Utah native and Monarchs MF Garrett Losee will be suspended from Wednesday’s home opener, due to the pair of yellow cards received on March 29 at Portland. Losee is expected to be eligible for selection on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. MT, when the Monarchs host Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Rio Tinto Stadium.
