SANDY, Utah - Real Monarchs SLC plays host to reigning USL Champions Sacramento Republic FC on Wednesday night at Rio Tinto Stadium, with a 7 p.m. MT kickoff. This is the first of four meetings between the clubs in 2015 (with two matches in each city), and tickets can be purchased at the Stadium box office or at RealMonarchs.com, with game coverage on the club site, ESPN700 AM, and the Real Monarchs’ YouTube page. Wednesday’s match will also be aired on KMYU TV at 11:00 p.m. that same evening, continuing the station's broadcast of all of the Monarchs’ home matches. Read the details on the KMYU/Monarchs partnership here.

Real Monarchs (0-4-2, 2 pts, 12th West) will look to bounce back from Saturday’s 1-0 loss to LA Galaxy II, as Los Dos stole all three points at Rio Tinto Stadium, as a last-minute goal in stoppage time gave the visitors the spoils. LA defender Bradley Diallo came down the left side of the pitch and took his shot from 30 yards out and past Real Monarchs goalkeeper Eric Osswald. Saturday’s loss was the second in-a-row at home for the Monarchs, but marked the USL debuts for Osswald, RSL-AZ Academy defender Danilo Acosta, Utah native midfielder Maikon Orellana, and home debut of recent signing, forward Max Rauhofer.

Sacramento (4-3-0, 12 points, 1st West) enters Wednesday coming off a home loss to in-state rival Orange County Blues FC. Republic FC thought it would secure a victory when Utah native Justin Braun scored, but the Blues fought back and scored two goals either side of the halftime break, which proved decisive for the win. Sacramento will host the Monarchs at Bonney Field on Saturday, May 30 in the next meeting between the teams.

Monarchs History v. Sacramento Republic FC

This will be the clubs’ first official meeting in USL however, Sacramento traveled to Sandy in September of last year to play Real Salt Lake in a friendly. RSL put out reserve squad, some of whom could be eligible to play in Wednesday’s match, including RSL goalkeeper Lalo Fernandez and defender Justen Glad. In that match, RSL won 2-0 in front of a sold-out Rio Tinto Stadium with the rain pouring down all match. Goals came from former RSL forward Robbie Findley (57’ PK) and former midfielder Sebastian Velasquez (90’).

Utah Native Maikon Orellana Finally Eligible for USL, Monarchs

In a highly-anticipated move, Monarchs Head Coach Freddy Juarez announced that midfielder Maikon Orellana – a Provo, Utah resident who has bounced between the Beehive State, the RSL-AZ academy and the El Salvadoran National Team – is signed and cleared to play for the USL club. Orellana, 21, returns home after two years at Brondby (Denmark), Jonkopings (Sweden), and Alianza (El Salvador), following his June, 2013 departure from Casa Grande.

The Utah Youth Soccer Association ODP product played for El Salvador’s U-20s at that age group’s FIFA World Cup, as well as the senior national team in a friendly. “Mikey,” who will wear jersey No. 28 for the Monarchs, was born in Chalatenango, El Salvador, before moving at the age of eight with his family to Utah, eventually settling in Provo.

Possibility of Six Utah Natives on the Field

With Sacramento coming to town, Republic FC Captain Justin Braun would add one more Utah native playing on the pitch Wednesday night. Braun would join five Real Monarchs or possible RSL loanees, all from Utah – including forward Garrett Losee, midfielder Maikon Orellana, midfielder Fito Ovalle, forward Sebastian Saucedo, and defender Phanuel Kavita.
