Oakland Roots SC adds defender Mark Fisher

25-year-old joins club after logging 39 appearances for Toronto FC II over past two seasons

OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Friday the club had signed defender Mark Fisher ahead of the 2026 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Fisher joins Oakland having most recently competed for Toronto FC II in MLS NEXT Pro, where he logged 39 appearances over the past two seasons since turning pro with the club prior to the 2024 campaign. Fischer recorded two goals and two assists in the 2024 season while completing 752 passes at an 84.6 percent passing accuracy rate and winning 75 duels at a 50.3 percent success rate.

“Mark is an incredibly blue-collar, competitive, high-engine, and versatile player who is a perfect fit for our 2026 Oakland Roots team,” said Head Coach Ryan Martin. “With strong local ties through his time at Stanford, he brings an added connection to the community. We’re excited to welcome him and looking forward to working with him.”

The Calgary, Alberta native had previously competed collegiately at Stanford University, where he recorded five goals and nine assists in 63 appearances for the Cardinal, logging 5,295 minutes of action. In his senior season Fisher was voted to the United Soccer Coaches All-Far West Region First Team and the Pac-12 All-Conference First Team.
