2023 USL Championship Player of the Year returns for second stint with Hounds as club’s second-leading scorer all-time

PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC announced on Friday the club had acquired forward Albert Dikwa via transfer from fellow USL Championship club Rhode Island FC ahead of the 2026 season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Dikwa returns for a second stint with the Hounds where he previously earned the 2023 USL Championship Player of the Year award and Golden Boot after leading the league with 20 goals in a career-best campaign. The Cameroonian forward also earned All-League First Team honors as he helped lead Pittsburgh to the Players’ Shield in the regular season.

“We couldn't be more excited to welcome Albert back home to Pittsburgh,” said Hounds Sporting Director Dan Visser, who was the team’s top assistant coach during Dikwa’s first stint in Pittsburgh. “His familiarity with our club and our city makes this move a natural fit. He's been a big part of our past and he'll be a big part of our future.”

Dikwa has recorded 56 regular-season goals in the Championship over his career, and recorded 19 goals and 10 assists across all competitions for Rhode Island FC over the past two seasons while helping the side reach the 2024 USL Championship Final. The 28-year-old already ranks among the scoring leaders in the Hounds’ history from his first tenure with the team from 2020-23, recording 37 goals across all competitions to rank second all-time for the club.

“I’m extremely happy to be back home in Pittsburgh,” said Dikwa. “I can’t wait to get back to work and representing my city again. Let’s go Hounds!”

A native of Garoua, Cameroon, Dikwa attended high school at Florida’s Monteverde Academy before signing professionally directly out of school with Orlando City B, at that time a USL Championship club. Dikwa followed his time in Orlando with two seasons at Saint Louis FC (2018-19) before joining the Hounds for his first stint with the club prior to the 2020 season.
