Miami FC signs Japanese midfielder Riyon Tori

24-year-old set for second season in pro ranks after recording 25 appearances with Orlando City B this past season

MIAMI – Miami FC announced on Friday the club had signed midfielder Riyon Tori ahead of the 2026 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval. 

Tori joins Miami having recorded 25 appearances for Orlando City B during the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season. The 24-year-old joined the club after being selected with the No. 83 pick of the and recorded one assist and eight chances created in 2,083 minutes. A versatile midfielder, Tori also won 126 duels at a 58.1 percent success rate and made 75 recoveries while recording 15 blocked shots for the Lions.

“I am really grateful for the opportunity to join Miami FC and am excited for this new challenge,” said Tori.  “I’ll give everything I have for this team’s success and am excited about what I can bring.”

A native of Osaka, Japan, Tori played collegiately for both St. John’s University and the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. While with Charlotte, he was voted to the American Athletic Conference First Team and the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Second Team in both the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Across 28 appearances he logged one goal, two assists and 1,864 minutes for the 49ers.
