PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC announced on Friday it had signed goalkeeper Nico Campuzano for the 2026 USL Championship season with a club option for the 2027 campaign. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Campuzano led the USL Championship with 84 saves for Monterey Bay in the 2025 regular season, recording a save percentage of 67.5 percent while posting five shutouts and a Goals Prevented mark of +1.06 across 28 appearances.

The 27-year-old had previously begun his professional career in 2022 with FC Cincinnati 2 of MLS NEXT Pro before recording six shutouts in 12 appearances for the New England Revolution II the following campaign. Campuzano then spent the 2024 season in USL League One with Lexington SC.

“We got to know Nico during his time at Pitt, and we’re excited to welcome him back to the city,” said Hounds Sporting Director Dan Visser. “He’s an elite shot stopper and also very comfortable with the ball at his feet.”

Prior to turning pro, Campuzano had a strong college career that began at the University of Portland in 2018-19 before joining the University of Pittsburgh as a graduate transfer. With Pitt, he was the starting goalkeeper for the team as it reached the 2020 NCAA College Cup Semifinals, and he twice earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors, making the First Team in 2020 and Third Team in 2021.

A native of Los Corrales de Buelna on Spain’s northern coast, Campuzano played his youth soccer with some of the country’s most prestigious clubs, including Racing Santander near his hometown to begin his teen years and finishing with two seasons at Barcelona and one at Villarreal.
