LEESBURG, Va. – Loudoun United FC announced on Friday it had appointed Alen Marcina as the club's new Sporting Director on a multi-year agreement, overseeing all sporting operations and long-term competitive strategy for the club.

"I'm grateful to each of the ownership groups and President Karl Sharman for the trust and opportunity to lead Loudoun United's sporting direction," said Marcina. "My focus is clear: to build a competitive, identity-led environment where performance matters, progression is intentional, and people are supported to reach their potential. We want to win now, move people forward, and build something that lasts for the long-term."

Marcina brings more than a decade of professional coaching and leadership experience across multiple levels of the American soccer landscape. Most recently, he served as Head Coach for San Antonio FC, where he led the team to the 2022 USL Championship title and the 2022 Players' Shield, awarded to the league's best regular-season record, while guiding the club to the playoffs in each of his first four seasons as head coach.

A native of Surrey, British Columbia, Marcina led San Antonio to a 72-37-41 record across five regular seasons and was voted the USL Championship Coach of the Year in 2022. He had previously competed in the USL A-League, recording almost 200 professional appearances in North America and Europe overall.

"The Sporting Director replaces his previous Director of Scouting title at Loudoun United," said Loudoun United President and CEO Karl Sharman. "This role change allows us to focus on building the club for the next five to ten years to ensure we are challenging in the USL Championship year on year. I am excited to be able to attract and welcome Alen to Loudoun County."
