BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham Legion FC announced on Wednesday the club had signed defenders Amir Daley and Dawson McCartney and midfielders Sebastian Saucedo and Samuel Shashoua to new contracts ahead of the 2026 USL Championship season. The transactions are pending league and federation approval.

The club also announced it had mutually agreed to part ways with goalkeeper Fernando Delgado following the conclusion of the 2025 season, and confirmed the return of goalkeeper Trevor McMullan, defenders Ramiz Hamouda, Phanuel Kavita and AJ Paterson, and midfielders Peter-Lee Vassell, Sam McIllhatton, Sebastian Tregarthen, and Tyler Pasher for the upcoming campaign.

Daley returns to Birmingham having recorded one goal and four assists in 10 appearances after arriving at the club late in the season on loan from FC Cincinnati 2 of MLS NEXT Pro. The 23-year-old also recorded 29 recoveries and 13 interceptions while winning 51 duels at a success rate of 58.6 percent during his prior stint with Legion.

McCartney logged two goals and two assists in 1,148 minutes of action in the 2025 USL Championship season, playing on both sides of the back line in the campaign. The 27-year-old also notched 13 chances created and completed nine dribbles at a 52.9 percent success rate while making 62 recoveries and winning nine tackles at a 64.3 percent success rate.

Saucedo saw only 68 minutes of regular season action following his midseason arrival in Birmingham, but found the net in the final group stage game of USL Cup to lift Legion into the knockout stage as one of the wild cards. The 28-year-old brings extensive prior experience in both Major League Soccer and the USL Championship, earning USL-C All-League honors in 2017 as he helped Real Monarchs SLC claim the Players’ Shield.

Shashoua recorded one assist and 11 chances created in 538 minutes of action for Legion while on loan from Minnesota United FC during the 2025 campaign after arriving in midseason. A graduate of the Tottenham Hotspur academy, Shashoua also completed 233 passes at an 89.6 percent accuracy rate while winning 9 of 9 tackles defensively.
