OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Monday the club had signed midfielder Tommy McCabe ahead of the 2026 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

McCabe’s move to Roots sees him reunite with new Roots Head Coach Ryan Martin, for whom he most recently played at fellow USL Championship club Loudoun United. Over the past two seasons with United, McCabe made 64 appearances and logged 5,680 minutes of action across the regular season and playoffs and completed 3,478 passes at an 89 percent passing accuracy rate.

“Tommy is the type of player every coach wants,” said Martin. “He’s intelligent, disciplined, and his vision and decision-making will be instrumental in helping our group find solutions to win games. His presence in the midfield will be a central part of our identity this season, and we’re excited to have him in Oakland.”

The 27-year-old has recorded 165 appearances and 12,231 minutes across the USL Championship’s regular season and playoffs previously in his career, recording four goals, five assists and 102 chances created. The central midfielder has posted a passing accuracy rate of 86.9 percent over his career, which has also seen him compete for North Carolina FC, Memphis 901 FC, Orange County SC, Detroit City FC, FC Tulsa, and Loudoun United.
