ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United announced on Friday the club had re-signed goalkeeper Kris Shakes ahead of the 2026 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Shakes returns for his third season in New Mexico after becoming the club’s starter over the second half of the 2025 campaign. The 24-year-old recorded 50 saves in 17 appearances across the USL Championship regular season and playoffs at a save percentage of 69 percent while posting five shutouts and a Goals Prevented mark of +0.52.

“We are thrilled to be bringing Kris back. His hard work, dedication, and commitment to this club from day one – on and off the field – have been infectious,” said New Mexico United Sporting Director Itamar Keinan. “It’s been amazing to see his growth over the past two seasons, and this is only the beginning for Shakes. We’re excited to have him back in Black and Yellow.”

A former part of the Philadelphia Union II while part of the club’s Academy, Shakes competed collegiately at Penn State University where he recorded a 1.09 goals-against average and logged 273 saves at a save percentage of 77.3% in 73 career appearances.
