Club announces 12 departures from club, with discussions ongoing regarding potential returns and new additions

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham Legion FC announced on Wednesday its initial roster decisions ahead of the 2026 USL Championship season, with 12 players set to depart the club as the club evaluates its competitive and strategic priorities for the year ahead.

Legion announced contract options for the 2026 season have not been exercised on Ethan Kos, Edwin Laszo, Erik Centeno, Kameron Lacey, Lucca Dourado, and Moses Mensah, while Maliek Howell, Stephen Turnbull and Tabort Etaka Preston are out of contract as free agents.

Additionally, Tiago Suarez will return to the New England Revolution and Jackson Travis to the Colorado Rapids at the conclusion of their loan periods.

The club also announced goalkeeper Trevor Spangenberg had elected to retire from professional soccer at the conclusion of the 2025 season.

The club also announced it remains in active discussions with several players regarding potential returns and is currently negotiating additional contracts. Further roster moves and announcements will follow in the coming weeks.
