Liberian forward recorded six goals, two assists while scoring in every game of the month to win Golden Boot

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship today announced that Oakland Roots SC forward Peter Wilson has been voted the USL Championship Player of the Month presented by Konami eFootball for October after recording six goals and two assists in the final month of the regular season.

The Liberian striker led the Championship with eight goal contributions across eight appearances and found the net in every game of the month, averaging a goal every 74.5 minutes while leading the league with a +2.74 Goals Added mark.

Wilson was also nominated for the Player of the Month award in September, finishing second to winner Jorge Hernández of San Antonio FC, as he began his scoring streak. His performance earned the 29-year-old the USL Championship’s Golden Boot with 18 goals in the regular season, the first season-long individual honor a Roots player has earned since the club joined the league in 2021.

“The biggest key to my performances over the past two months is confidence,” said Wilson. “Going on a scoring streak builds confidence. I was able to go into every game with that confidence in myself and the confidence in the team to go out and play football the way I know we can.”

Wilson’s run of form across the two months saw him equal the Championship’s record for goals in consecutive games, running his scoring streak to eight games to equal the mark set by Hadji Barry for Sporting Kansas City II in the 2018 season. He is now looking forward to returning to Oakland for the 2026 season with the aim of picking up where he left off for the side.

“I think going into this offseason with this run of form is going to keep me motivated to work even harder, to keep working to confirm that this was a good year for me and that it can only get better knowing that things kind of got started for me after the summer,” said Wilson. “Now I can get started with the offseason, get the work done and next year with the spirits high will be the biggest piece of my run of form in October.”

Wilson earned 56% of a weighted poll that included the USL Championship Technical Committee, a national panel of independent media representing every USL market and an online fan vote held at USLChampionship.com. Orange County SC’s Chris Hegardt finished second on 19 percent after leading the league with four assists to help OCSC earn its place in the 2025 USL Championship Playoffs presented by Terminix.
