So much for preseason predictions.
At the start of this year, we thought FC Tulsa would improve, but not quite by enough to reach the USL Championship Playoffs.
Now, the Scissortails look like the favorite to represent the Western Conference in the Championship Final on Saturday, Nov. 22 after a remarkable season that has seen the club take big steps forward in every way.
The club set season-best marks wherever you look. From most wins (16) and points (57) to the most points gained from losing positions (21) to fewest losses in a full season (5), Head Coach Luke Spencer’s side grew formidably month after month to where it left its rivals in the dust, taking the No. 1 seed in the West by a nine-point margin.
“You play the whole season to show you’re consistent, you can consistently win,” said Spencer after his side’s regular-season ending 3-0 win against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. “Now it’s a question of what we do with the No. 1 seed and how we take advantage of the home-field advantage.”
From the numbers Tulsa has put up at ONEOK Field since the start of June, it’s going to be a task for anyone to knock them off. The Scissortails have gone 8-0-2 at home since then, tying the Charleston Battery for a league-high 25 goals while conceding only 10 times.
What’s more, the side has been impressive putting games away. From sitting last in the league in 2024 with only two goals in the final 15 minutes of games, Tulsa ranked first in that category this year with 16 goals coming in the 76th minute or later.
With the side making its first postseason trip since 2021 – and hosting a playoff game for the first time – that homefield advantage could prove crucial as Tulsa looks to make its mark in November.
“I’m super excited,” said leading scorer Taylor Calheira. “ONEOK Field, I think it’s become a fortress, and the fans have been amazing. We’ve been winning games, so hopefully everyone can come out like they have heading into the playoffs.”
Here are this week’s rankings.

| 6 | ![]() |
Sacramento Republic FC (13-8-9) Up Next: vs. OC |
3Last Week: 9 |
Sacramento took care of the No. 2 seed in midweek with victory against Charleston but will need to be more clinical than it was against Miami if it’s going to make a postseason run. |
| 7 | ![]() |
Hartford Athletic (13-12-5) Up Next: @ PIT |
2Last Week: 5 |
Two defeats to end the season wasn’t what Athletic was looking for. Now it’s got to go and play a Pittsburgh team that’s historically had its number, including this season. |
| 8 | ![]() |
Phoenix Rising FC (9-8-13) Up Next: @ ELP |
2Last Week: 10 |
Rising’s three consecutive shutouts to end the campaign were a positive step forward. We’re intrigued to see what attacking combination Pa-Modou Kah opts for in El Paso. |
| 9 | ![]() |
North Carolina FC (13-11-6) Up Next: vs. LDN |
3Last Week: 12 |
The underlying numbers don’t really fancy North Carolina – the side logged just 30.66 Expected Goals and had a minus-10.79 Expected Goal Differential – but they found a way to win when it mattered. |

Rhode Island FC (10-12-8) Up Next: @ CHS |

| 12 | ![]() |
San Antonio FC (11-12-7) Up Next: @ NM |
7Last Week: 19 |
No team needed the performance San Antonio delivered on Saturday night more. Is that the impetus the side needs going to visit New Mexico this weekend? |
| 13 | ![]() |
El Paso Locomotive FC (10-9-11) Up Next: vs. PHX |
7Last Week: 6 |
Locomotive has put together a really solid season without always being completely convincing. They need to put it all together at home after Saturday’s defeat. |
| 14 | ![]() |
Loudoun United FC (12-12-6) Up Next: @ NC |
3Last Week: 11 |
If there’s a silver lining for Loudoun from Saturday’s defeat to North Carolina, it’s how much pressure it was able to produce throughout the game. They’ve just got to find a way to make it pay off second time around. |
| 15 | ![]() |
Detroit City FC (9-11-10) Up Next: @ LOU |
3Last Week: 18 |
Le Rouge kept their playoff streak alive with a helping hand from Orange County. Now all they have to do is win at Lynn Family Stadium, where they’ve lost all five visits prior and scored only twice. |
| 16 | ![]() |
Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (10-13-7) Up Next: @ TUL |
2Last Week: 14 |
Christian Herrera allowed three goals on Saturday in Tulsa and still had a -1.09 Goals Prevented mark with his eight saves. Imagine how bad it could have been. |
| 17 | ![]() |
Oakland Roots SC (8-14-8) |
4Last Week: 21 |
Oakland ended the season on a positive note with Peter Wilson and Wolfgang Prentice lighting things up. Unfortunately, it came too late to see Head Coach Benny Feilhaber be retained. |

Miami FC (8-16-6) |
2Last Week: 20 |
– Miami won three of its last four games to dig out of last place in the East thanks to its late winner in Sacramento, which gave the side a 19-point improvement from a season ago. |
| 19 | ![]() |
Tampa Bay Rowdies (9-14-7) |
2Last Week: 17 |
The last time the Rowdies ended the season out of the playoffs, there was a mid-season appointment on the sidelines and veterans like Joe Cole retiring. They’ll be hoping history repeats. |
| 20 | ![]() |
Indy Eleven (10-15-5) |
7Last Week: 13 |
The door was open for the Boys in Blue but they couldn’t walk through and earn the final playoff spot. That’s a major disappointment. |
| 21 | ![]() |
Lexington SC (9-12-9) |
5Last Week: 16 |

| 22 | ![]() |
Monterey Bay FC (7-15-8) |
1Last Week: 23 |
Anton Søjberg had the chance to put some gloss on Monterey Bay’s season but sent his penalty wide in a game the hosts probably should have won. Story of their year. |
| 23 | ![]() |
Las Vegas Lights FC (6-15-9) |
1Last Week: 24 |
The Lights are going to have to regroup this offseason under Head Coach Devin Rensing. At least they know it’s possible, but there’s a lot of work to do. |
