OAKLAND, Calif. – Peter Wilson scored his 18th goal of the season to lead Oakland Roots SC to a 3-0 victory against Lexington SC at the Oakland-Alameda Coliseum that ended Lexington’s bid to reach the 2025 USL Championship Playoffs on the final day of the regular season.
The Liberian forward found the net for an eighth consecutive game in the 19th minute with a turning shot from the left side of the penalty area, in turn equaling the USL Championship’s record for consecutive games with goal previously set by Hadji Barry in 2018 for Sporting Kansas City II. Roots almost added to their lead six minutes later when Wolfgang Prentice rang the left post with a shot from the top of the penalty area, while Wilson sent a finish high early in the second half as he looked to add to his tally.
Bobosi Byaruhanga also hit the woodwork for Roots midway through the second half, clipping the outside of the left post with a shot, but with eight minutes to go Prentice tucked home a finish from Camden Riley’s centering pass from the right to double the lead. Oakland wrapped up all three points with a minute to go through Faysal Bettache, set up by Wilson, as the hosts ended the campaign on a high note.
