Scottish forward’s first goal since return from injury, assist helped lift side to 2-0 win at Weidner Field

Arriving at Sacramento Republic FC this offseason, Lewis Jamieson could hardly have had a better introduction to the club with a goal on his debut in a season-opening victory at Heart Health Park.

As the season progressed, however, things took a turn for the Scottish forward, including three months on the sidelines due to injury between early May and early August. Upon his return, minutes were proving limited with Republic FC having found an attacking rotation in his absence, which means every opportunity Jamieson got to make an impact was important.

In mid-September, he did just that to spark Republic FC to a key road victory against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC that maintained the club’s progression toward a trip to the USL Championship Playoffs in November, recording a goal and assist in the side’s 2-0 victory at Weidner Field.

For his outstanding performance, Jamieson has been selected as September’s Prinx Impact Sub of the Month, a new series highlighting key substitutions that have changed the course of a game this season.

Coming into a scoreless game just before the hour-mark, Jamieson was looking to give Republic FC a lift. The side had created chances in the first half but was yet to record a shot in the second upon his entry. It didn’t take long for him to make his mark.

Jamieson opened the scoring in spectacular fashion in the 68th minute, cutting across the penalty area from the left as Rodrigo Lopez and Jack Gurr combined to set up an attack on the opposite flank. Gurr’s low cross was precise, allowing Jamieson to control with his first touch and power home his first goal since he had been sidelined into the roof of the net with his second.

“It means a whole lot,” said Jamieson of the finish. “It’s just been tough with, obviously the injury, the rehab, and then, obviously, not quite getting opportunities that I've wanted. But that's why now, I need to come on and make an impact when I'm given the chance. And thankfully, I've done that tonight.”

He then added his first assist for the club with six minutes to go, playing a 1-2 with Russell Cicerone in midfield that sprang the veteran forward into space behind the defense to finish, wrapping up all three points for the visitors. For Republic FC Head Coach Neill Collins, Jamieson’s performance provided just what his side was looking for.

“I thought the substitutes had a huge impact,” said Collins. “Lewis Jamieson obviously scored a fantastic goal, and just gave us a little bit of an extra dimension. And that’s just another example of how it doesn't always take 90 minutes to make an impact. Anyone can come on and influence the game.”

Sacramento has found production off the bench consistently this season, with eight of its 39 regular season goals – or just over 20 percent – coming from substitutes in addition to six assists.

Jamieson’s contributions in Colorado Springs fit into that theme, and helped one of the Western Conference’s top clubs emerge victorious.

“Tonight, I was the one that came in and made an impact,” said Jamieson. “I think that’s the mentality that everyone on the team has. We feel that each week it can be a different person that steps up and that’s the kind of team you want to play for.”
