Longtime Louisville City FC supporter Patrick Blanton honored as league reaches landmark for fourth consecutive year

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship surpassed the 2 million attendance mark for the 2025 season on Saturday night, marking the opening weekend of the final month of the regular season with a landmark night.

The campaign marks the fourth consecutive season in which the USL Championship has surpassed 2 million fans in attendance, with overall attendance currently projected to increase from the 2024 regular season. The league’s year-on-year consistency has coincided with the construction of new soccer-specific venues around the league, this year seeing Rhode Island FC open Centerville Bank Stadium.

“Reaching 2 million fans this season in the USL Championship is a reflection of the passion and support we’re seeing in communities across the country,” said USL Championship President Jeremy Alumbaugh. “Our clubs continue to raise the bar on and off the field, and the growing energy in our stadiums shows the incredible momentum behind professional soccer in the United States.”

As part of the night’s celebration, the league honored longtime Louisville City FC supporter Patrick Blanton as the honorary 2 millionth fan as the current Players’ Shield leaders played host to perennial rival Indy Eleven in the 22nd regular season edition of the Louisville-Indianapolis Proximity Association Football Contest.

Earlier this season, Blanton attended his 250th Louisville City game, embodying the devoted support that can found across the USL Championship landscape.
