With the squad San Antonio FC features, the returns the side had delivered in attack for much of this season had been somewhat disappointing.
Through 22 games, SAFC recorded only 26 goals, a key reason for the up-and-down form the side had experienced over the campaign overall. In a muddled Western Conference where only FC Tulsa and Sacramento Republic FC had risen above, it wasn’t yet threatening the side’s postseason chances, but it didn’t seem to be maximizing the ceiling the side’s talent said it possesses.
With eight goals in the past two games after Saturday’s convincing 3-1 victory against Orange County SC at Toyota Field, though, San Antonio looks like it might have turned a corner.
“I think for 90 minutes there were ups and downs, but I think overall, we played a really good game, really compact defensively and going forward,” said Pacheco. “Especially in the first half, I think we did really well. Playing in their half, we created really good chances, and I think the score could have been even more, but I think getting three goals at home was really positive, because obviously we've been struggling at home.
“Coming from this last game with a win, and now at home, I think it was really good, especially for the fans too.”
Leading the way was Jorge Hernández, who notched his second consecutive performance with a goal and an assist. The former Golden Playmaker is now only one off his single-season best with 11 goals in the regular season, and when he’s been on song, SAFC has tended to follow along.
What was also notable about Saturday’s display, though, was the manner in which San Antonio managed the game to see it out. While Orange County had the majority of the possession overall, over the final 15 minutes they didn’t get much of a sniff of goal. That was due to SAFC holding 59.5 percent of possession, allowing only 20.5 percent of the action to occur in its defensive third.
OCSC had some late pressure in stoppage time, but nothing that was going to overcome the two-goal lead San Antonio had built.
“I believe the group is getting in a good rhythm these last three matches,” said Head Coach Carlos Llamosa. “We played more together, with the ball and without the ball. Now we defended, especially at the end – it happened in Loudoun, happened tonight – we defended a lot with possession, with the ball.”
There are some intriguing contests to come next month, including a trip to current conference leader Tulsa on October 11 and the conclusion of Copa Tejas against El Paso Locomotive FC on October 25. We’re looking forward to seeing if SAFC can put its best foot forward from here.
Here are this week’s rankings.

Lexington SC (9-8-8) Week 30: @ NM |

One big chance, one goal, one victory. Lexington doesn’t feel like it’s at the same level as the top two in the West, but they’re in the top four after Saturday’s win at Detroit. |
| 6 | ![]() |
Hartford Athletic (10-10-5) Week 30: @ COS |
4Last Week: 2 |
Antony Siaha having to come out at halftime following his collision with Adrian Diz Pe was concerning. He’s meant so much to this side’s run of form, hopefully it’s nothing serious. |
| 7 | ![]() |
San Antonio FC (10-8-6) Week 30: vs. BHM |
6Last Week: 13 |
San Antonio has cut loose and scored eight goals in the past two games with Jorge Hernández leading the way. This is much more like it. |
| 8 | ![]() |
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (9-9-7) Week 30: vs. LV |

Pittsburgh’s victory in Hartford arrived late, but should set the side on course of the playoffs. Three of its final five games come against Miami, Las Vegas and Monterey Bay. |
| 9 | ![]() |
North Carolina FC (11-9-4) Week 30: vs. MIA |
2Last Week: 7 |
North Carolina somehow got a point out of its trip to Tampa Bay, extending its undefeated streak against the Rowdies. Wasn’t a great display, overall. |
| 10 | ![]() |
Loudoun United FC (11-9-5) Week 30: vs. TBR |
2Last Week: 8 |
Big missed opportunity for Loudoun to create separation from North Carolina after conceding twice late to Phoenix. United’s now conceded a league-high 12 goals in the final 15 minutes and stoppage time. |
| 11 | ![]() |
New Mexico United (10-10-4) Week 30: @ COS; vs. LEX |
![]() Last Week: 11 |
Luther Archiméde’s becoming a bit of a difference-maker for United with two goals off the bench since his arrival. Must have been nice for him to get the equalizer at former club Monterey Bay. |
| 12 | ![]() |
Phoenix Rising FC (7-7-11) Week 30: vs. OAK |
2Last Week: 14 |
Rising’s resilience was on display again against Loudoun United. This side is undefeated in its last six games, but has drawn five of them. The pressure’s still on with five games to go. |
| 13 | ![]() |
Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (8-9-7) Week 30: vs. NM; vs. HFD |
4Last Week: 9 |
The Switchbacks were frustrated by Saturday’s defeat but acknowledged they didn’t make the most of their opportunities. That’s the difference between the playoffs and being home over the final stretch. |
| 14 | ![]() |
El Paso Locomotive FC (8-8-8) Week 30: vs. RI |
4Last Week: 10 |
Three consecutive defeats for Locomotive is dragging them back into the playoff race. El Paso needs to find a way out of this funk, fast. |
| 15 | ![]() |
Rhode Island FC (8-11-6) Week 30: @ ELP |
2Last Week: 17 |
It wasn’t pretty, but Rhode Island got the win it needed in Miami. Just as well with Indy coming back to win on Sunday evening. |
| 16 | ![]() |
Indy Eleven (8-12-5) Week 30: vs. TUL |
3Last Week: 19 |
Indy’s victory against Birmingham was the first time it had won after trailing at halftime since 2023. Massive three points, and ultimately deserved from the second-half display. |
| 17 | ![]() |
Detroit City FC (8-9-8) Week 30: @ LOU |
2Last Week: 15 |
A second consecutive defeat and Darren Smith getting pulled from the lineup pregame against Lexington is worrying. Le Rouge must make the most of these next three home games. |
| 18 | ![]() |
Oakland Roots SC (7-12-5) Week 30: @ PHX |
![]() Last Week: 18 |
Roots is making progress, but as Head Coach Benny Feilhaber said, they’re running out of runway. A win at Phoenix on Saturday would be a massive boost. |
| 19 | ![]() |
Tampa Bay Rowdies (7-13-5) Week 30: @ LDN |
2Last Week: 21 |
The Rowdies were so close to a six-point week that would have thrust them into the race for eighth spot. Their late concession to North Carolina was another sinking moment, leaving a four-point gap to make up instead of two. |
| 20 | ![]() |
Orange County SC (8-10-5) Week30: vs. CHS |
4Last Week: 16 |
Orange County is still in control of its path to the playoffs, but it’s on its longest winless streak since a season ago. They’ve got to find a way to string a couple of wins together. |
| 21 | ![]() |
Birmingham Legion FC (4-11-10) Week 30: @ SA |
1Last Week: 20 |
Legion held two halftime leads and lost both games, sinking its playoff chances. Of the 21 goals the side has conceded in the second half this year, six came in the past week. |
| 22 | ![]() |
Las Vegas Lights FC (6-12-7) Week 30: @ PIT |
![]() Last Week: 22 |
The Lights were always going to have their hands full in Louisville, but we’re still going to shout-out Raiko Arozarena’s nine-save performance. Tremendous work under pressure. |
| 23 | ![]() |
Monterey Bay FC (6-13-7) Week 30: vs. SAC |
1Last Week: 24 |
Monterey Bay’s glimmer of hope was taken away by former player Luther Archimede in New Mexico’s late equalizer. That’s the kind of season it’s been. |
| 24 | ![]() |
Miami FC (5-14-6) Week 30: @ NC |
1Last Week: 23 |
Another setback, and Miami’s winless streak is at 13 games. There just wasn’t enough attacking punch. |
