CARY, N.C. – North Carolina FC announced on Monday it had acquired German goalkeeper Oliver Semmle on loan from MLS side Philadelphia Union for the remainder of the 2025 season.
Semmle joins North Carolina having previously appeared in 17 matches for Philadelphia in the 2024 MLS regular season, making 53 saves and posting four clean sheets.
“We are excited to have Oliver join us at this important time of the season,” said NCFC Head Coach and Sporting Director John Bradford. “He brings MLS-level quality and experience and will certainly help us here at North Carolina FC.”
The 27-year-old joined the Union via transfer from the USL Championship’s Louisville City FC following a standout 2023 season in which he recorded 12 shutouts to tie for the league-lead and recorded 68 saves.
“Joining North Carolina FC is an incredible opportunity, especially playing in a stadium where I have such special memories,” said Semmle. “I’m ready to give everything to create even bigger ones with NCFC.”
Semmle had previously been selected by the Colorado Rapids with the 41st overall pick of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft after spending three years at Marshall University. As a member of the Thundering Herd, Semmle won the program’s first College Cup title in 2020, alongside new teammate Pedro Dolabella, at First Horizon Stadium against Indiana University in the College Cup Final.
