TAMPA, Fla. – The USL today announced two additional games selected for broadcast on ESPN2 this season, including the first USL Jägermeister Cup contest to air as a national broadcast in the tournament’s growing history.
The contest between Detroit City FC and Westchester SC on Saturday, July 26 will air from Keyworth Stadium at 7 p.m. ET, marking a potentially key game in the final round of the group stage on a packed night of action in the tournament.
Detroit City will be aiming to be in position to advance from Group 4 after taking three points from its opening two games against a Westchester SC side that has proven one of League One’s most entertaining sides in its inaugural campaign.
Led by Honduran international JC Obregón Jr., WSC has recorded 17 goals in 10 games so far this season across League One and the USL Jägermeister Cup. Individually, Obregón has notched 10 goals across all competitions this season, a feat matched by Detroit City’s Darren Smith, who became only the seventh player to reach 10 goals in a season in the club’s decade-plus history this past weekend.
Additionally, the USL Championship contest between Louisville City FC and Rhode Island FC at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, June 11 will now air on ESPN2, a change from the previously announced broadcast on TUDN.
The contest stands as a rematch from 2024 USL Championship Playoffs as LouCity plays host to defending Eastern Conference title holder Rhode Island, which stands as the only team to defeat LouCity on its home turf in the Championship regular season since the start of the 2024 season.
Rhode Island claimed a 3-0 victory when the teams last met in the Eastern Conference Semifinals of the 2024 USL Championship Playoffs, ending a streak of nine consecutive appearances for LouCity in the Eastern Conference Final. Currently the last remaining undefeated team in the Championship through 10 games of the regular season, Louisville will aim to turn the tables on its visitors in its pursuit of a second consecutive Players’ Shield.
