MD Myers' match-winning brace extends Charleston's league winning streak to five

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship today announced the Team of the Week for Week 10 of the 2025 regular season, with Charleston Battery forward MD Myers named Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball with a match-winning, nine-minute brace against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Through 74 minutes of play on Saturday, Myers scored goals in the 19th and 28th minutes to extend Charleston's league winning streak to five matches. The 24-year-old has tallied a goal contribution in four of his five USL Championship appearances this season, scoring the match-winning goal in each of the three matches in which he's found the back of the net. Myers' Player of the Week recognition is the second of the season and third of his professional career.

"It's always big when we can go on the road at a tough place to play like Tampa Bay and pick up three points," Myers said. "We wanted to get after them early, especially with both teams on short rest and playing three games in a week, and that's exactly what we did.

"When our entire front line is firing, we're a real problem, and I think that's what was going on well in the first 30 minutes of the match. It also takes the pressure off one guy from having to push to get the goals, and I just made sure to get in the right positions and trusted the boys would find me. Very happy to get the two goals and to help the team get over the line in a big game."

"We started with a good intensity; there's a way that both teams want to play, and we wanted to use a couple of things to our advantage, and we did straight away," Charleston Head Coach Ben Pirmann said of the match. "I thought we had really good patterns and movements.

"One thing with [Tampa Bay's] extended press is you have to be able to win second balls, and we did that on the second goal; great movement with Juan David [Torres] and Cal [Jennings] and MD [Myers] going forward. We want to keep the ball in the attacking half and force them to change shape, force them to change a little bit of an identity and create the rebound. I just thought what we do well, we did very well, especially for the first half."

The Championship's Player of the Week is selected by the USL National Media Panel, which is made up of representatives from each media market in the Championship. Myers finished with 38%, while North Carolina's Jake McGuire finished second on 31%.
