DETROIT – Detroit City FC announced on Wednesday it had signed defender Rhys Williams to a contract extension through the 2026 USL Championship season.
Williams has made seven appearances this season and has been a mainstay in the Detroit City FC squad since joining the club ahead of the 2022 season. He currently sits seventh all-time in appearances for Detroit City FC with 113 across all competitions, dating back to his debut on March 12, 2022, on the road to San Antonio FC in Le Rouge’s first match in the USL Championship.
The 29-year-old also sits tied for eighth all-time in assists for the club. Williams has scored three goals for Detroit City, all coming in the 2024 season.
Before joining Detroit City FC, Williams had competed in USL League One for South Georgia Tormenta and Lansing Ignite FC and in the USL Championship for Real Monarchs SLC. He had competed collegiately at Columbia University between 2013 and 2016, during which time the White Plains, N.Y. native competed for the New York Red Bulls U-23.
