Gabriel Torres' named Player of the Week with two assists to help El Paso top Lexington

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship today announced the Team of the Week for Week 5 of the 2025 regular season, with El Paso Locomotive FC midfielder Gabriel Torres named Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball with a pair of assists in El Paso's 2-1 victory against Lexington SC.

The first-year El Paso midfielder tallied the seventh multi-goal-contribution match of his six-year professional career, helping Locomotive FC to its second-best start to a season through five matches in club history. The 28-year-old has enjoyed a productive start to his time in El Paso, tallying five goal contributions through his first seven matches across all competitions.

"I think what helped it was the confidence and support I receive every day from my teammates and coaching staff," Torres said of his performance. "The way the community has welcomed me and my family has been amazing. We are truly blessed for everything that is happening in our lives."

The Championship's Player of the Week is selected by the USL National Media Panel, which is made up of representatives from each media market in the Championship. Torres finished with 55%, while Rhode Island's Clay Holstad finished second on 36%.

GK – Carlos Herrera, Detroit City FC: The former Monterey Bay goalkeeper recorded his first Detroit City clean sheet on Saturday, making three saves, tallying 11 recoveries and completing 75% of his passes in a scoreless draw against his former side. 

D – Arturo Ortiz, El Paso Locomotive FC: The former Mexico international and Liga MX champion scored his first El Paso goal on Saturday, helping Locomotive FC to a 2-1 victory against Lexington. The 32-year-old finished with nine clearances, eight duels won, five recoveries, three tackles won, two fouls won and a 76% passing accuracy rate.

D – Pedro Santos, Loudoun United FC: The 36-year-old Portuguese veteran was efficient in Loudoun's 2-0 victory against Hartford. Santos recorded eight duels won, four chances created, four accurate crosses, four fouls won, four recoveries, two tackles won, all while completing 88% of his 73 passes.

D – Freddy Kleemann, Sacramento Republic FC: Kleemann helped Sacramento limit Louisville to one goal through his 13 clearances, 10 duels won, three recoveries, three fouls won, two tackles won, two interceptions, two completed long passes and 79% passing accuracy rate.

D – Keegan Tingey, Loudoun United FC: Tingey's 52nd-minute goal against Hartford on Saturday served as his first of the season as well as Loudoun's game-winner. Tingey finished with three recoveries, two shots on target, one chance created, and completed 89% of his 62 passes.

M – Gabriel Torres, El Paso Locomotive FC: Torres constructed the seventh multi-goal-contribution match of his career, assisting both of El Paso's goals in Locomotive FC's 2-1 win against Lexington. The 28-year-old Brazilian added six duels won, three recoveries, three interceptions, two completed dribbles, and completed 75% of his passes.

M – Clay Holstad, Rhode Island FC: Four matches into his third professional season, Holstad tallied the first one-goal, one-assist match of his career. In addition to his goal and assist that powered Rhode Island to a 3-0 victory in Oakland, the 25-year-old contributed with eight duels won, three tackles won, three fouls won and two completed long passes.

M – Jojea Kwizera, Rhode Island FC: The Rwanda international assisted Albert Dikwa's winner at the Oakland Coliseum before finishing the day by completing 35 of his 38 passes, reeling in nine recoveries, winning four dules and recording two clearances. 

F – Jearl Margaritha, Phoenix Rising FC: In the first USL on CBS match of the season, the Curaçao international scored the winner against San Antonio FC - his first goal on the season - in the 68th minute. Margaritha added four duels won, three interceptions, two recoveries, and two fouls won.

F – Albert Dikwa, Rhode Island FC: The former USL Championship Golden Boot winner bagged his first league goal of the season, scoring Rhode Island's winner against Oakland at the Coliseum. Dikwa placed all four of his shots on target, won both of his tackles and won six duels.

F – Maalique Foster, Indy Eleven: Foster tallied his first assist of the season, helping Indy to a 2-2 draw against North Carolina. The former Jamaica international created three total chances, completed 68% of his passes, won three duels and completed two dribbles.

Coach – Pa-Modou Kah, Phoenix Rising FC: The first-year Phoenix head coach picked up his first Rising FC victory, leading the club to a 2-1 victory against previously unbeaten San Antonio FC on CBS in its second-ever victory at Toyota Field.
