DETROIT – Detroit City FC announced on Friday the club had acquired forward Jordan Adebayo-Smith on loan from Minnesota United FC of Major League Soccer for the 2025 USL Championship season. Adebayo-Smith will be eligible for selection in Detroit’s contest against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday evening.
Adebayo-Smith joins Le Rouge having a season ago made 11 appearances for the Loons in Major League Soccer, notching one assist in 247 minutes of play. The 24-year-old also made 17 appearances for Minnesota United 2 of MLS NEXT Pro, where he recorded five goals and one assist.
Adebayo-Smith was acquired by Minnesota United via a trade with the New England Revolution prior to the 2024 campaign. In 2023, the California native featured for the Revolution II in MLSNP where he recorded 12 goals and six assists in 30 appearances for the side, both single-season career highs.
Before joining the Revolution organization, Adebayo-Smith spent two seasons in the USL Championship, competing for the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2021 and the New York Red Bulls II in 2022. In total, Adebayo-Smith recorded more than 3,000 minutes in the USL Championship between these two seasons, notching 11 goals and three assists. Ten ofof his 14 goal contributions came with Red Bulls II in 2022.
Adebayo-Smith spent the earliest days of his career in England. In August of 2018, he joined Lincoln City on a two-year scholarship before being loaned out to Grantham Town, Boston United, and Gainsborough Trinity. In November 2020, Adebayo-Smith joined Sutton United but would depart the club in March 2021 to join the Rowdies.
