OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Tuesday the club had signed midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
Byaruhanga joins Roots having most recently played for Austin FC II in MLS NEXT Pro. The 23-year-old recorded four goals and three assists across 50 appearances over the past two seasons, and helped Austin claim the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro Cup.
“Bobosi is a young player we are very excited to bring in to help solidify our midfield,” said Roots Head Coach Gavin Glinton. “To have the international experience and multiple league championships under his belt at such a young age has set him an incredible foundation into becoming a key player in our squad this season.”
Byaruhanga had previously played in the Ugandan top division and won the 2022 Championship with Vipers SC. He has made 18 appearances for the Uganda Men’s National Team, most recently seeing action for the side last November as he helped the side advance to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco this December.
