OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Wednesday it had signed former Mexico international Jürgen Damm ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Damm joins Roots having most recently competed for Atletico de San Luis, where he made 22 appearances in LigaMX since joining the club ahead of the 2023 Apertura. The 32-year-old notched a pair of assists in 481 minutes of action, while also appearing for the side in the 2024 Leagues Cup.

“We are very excited to bring in a player of Jürgen’s caliber and ability,” said Oakland Roots Head Coach Gavin Glinton. “His pedigree and experience speak for themselves. He has won at the highest level in our region and represented one of the most recognized national teams in the world.”

A native of Tuxpan, Mexico, Damm rose to prominence in LigaMX while competing first for Pachuca and then Tigres, joining the latter midway ahead of the 2015 LigaMX Apertura. Damm made 107 appearances in LigaMX for Tigres, recording seven goals and 14 assists, as he helped the side win four league titles – the Apertura in 2015, 2016 and 2017 and the Clausura in 2019 – and a pair of Campeón de Campeones Cups.

During that time, Damm made his debut for the Mexico Men’s National Team, making 12 appearances across World Cup Qualifying, the Confederations Cup and international friendlies between 2015 and 2018.

After his departure from Tigres, Damm joined Atlanta United FC as a Designated Player in 2020 and logged three assists in 24 regular season appearances for the side before returning to LigaMX with Club America in 2022.

Over his career, Damm has made 194 appearances in LigaMX’s regular season, recording 11 goals and 24 assists, while also making 28 appearances in the playoffs, recording two goals and six assists.
