BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham Legion FC announced on Tuesday it had reached an agreement for the transfer of midfielder Matthew Corcoran with Nashville SC of Major League Soccer. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Corcoran spent three seasons with Legion FC after turning pro with the club in 2022 as a 15-year-old prospect. In his time in The Magic City, he recorded 50 appearances across all competitions, logging one assist and four assists in 2,348 minutes of action.

“We are excited for Matthew and this great opportunity,” said Legion FC President and General Manager Jay Heaps. “He signed with us as a 15-year-old, and we have enjoyed watching him grow on and off the field. We thank him for all his efforts for the club and look forward to watching the next step in his career.”

After logging 138 minutes in his first season with Legion in 2022, Corcoran broke out the following year as he made 34 appearances and 23 starts across all competitions as the side advanced to the USL Championship Playoffs and the Quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Corcoran scored his first professional goal on May 13 against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on an outstanding free kick. He also notched three assists and 29 chances created in league play while winning 25 tackles at a 64.1 percent success rate, 21 interceptions and 115 recoveries and posting a passing accuracy rate of 82.2 percent.

The Dallas, Texas native’s performances for Legion saw him earn a place in the United States’ squad for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia, where he started in three of the side’s four games, impressing with his composure in possession and defensive positioning.

Corcoran suffered a torn hip labrum in preseason in 2024 but returned late in the campaign to record one assist in five appearances for Legion. Most recently, he was named in the United States U-20 Men’s National Team squad that convened in West Palm Beach, Fla. in January as the side begins preparations for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile this September.
