LAS VEGAS – Las Vegas Lights FC announced on Friday it had signed defender Shaft Brewer Jr. to a contract through the 2026 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Brewer joins the Lights having made a total of 32 appearances for North Carolina FC during the 2024 USL Championship season, contributing one goal and 11 chances created while winning 11 tackles at a 64.7 percent success rate.

“We are very excited to welcome Shaft to the club. He’s a quick, skillful player who is an active threat out wide with experience in this league,” said Lights Sporting Director Gianleonardo Neglia. “His ability to both attack and defend effectively on either side of the pitch offers us great versatility in those wide areas.”

Brewer came through the Sacramento Republic FC, FC Dallas, and RB Leipzig academies. With the German side’s U-19 team, Brewer made three appearances and contributed with one goal.

He joined LAFC ahead of the 2018 season and made his professional debut on June 2, 2018, coming on as a substitute in a 2-1 defeat against FC Dallas. He made four total appearances in 2018 for the MLS club before finishing the year on loan with Phoenix Rising FC in the USL Championship, where he made 10 appearances.

Brewer then had a stint abroad with Norwegian third tier club Fram Larvik, scoring three goals with one assist across 34 total appearances.

He returned to the United States for a successful two-year stay with Union Omaha in USL League One, helping them qualify for the playoffs in both seasons and sealing a move back to the Championship with NCFC ahead of the 2024 season.

Brewer is also a former USYNT player, playing for both the U18s and the U20s. He accumulated 11 caps for the U18 squad in 2016 and 2017, scoring goals versus Slovakia and Russia. He collected three caps for the U20 team in 2018.
