OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots SC announced on Friday the club had signed attacking midfielder Panos Armenakas ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Armenakas joins Oakland having most recently competed for Memphis 901 FC during the second half of the 2024 season. The 26-year-old recorded one goal, one assist and 12 chances created in 343 minutes of action for Memphis after a mid-season transfer from Phoenix Rising FC.

“Panos is a dangerous and intelligent attacking player,” said Oakland Roots Head Coach Gavin Glinton. “We’ve seen it again and again throughout his time in the USL. He can punish teams with his finishing, passing, and one-v-one ability. He has also proven he knows how to win in this league.”

A native of Newport Beach, Calif., Armenakas played a key role as Phoenix claimed the 2023 USL Championship title. He recorded six goals, seven assists and 77 chances created in 43 appearances for Phoenix across two seasons, including one goal in their postseason run.

Prior to arriving in Phoenix, Armenakas made 12 appearances for Loudoun United FC at the start of the 2023 season, notching one goal and one assist and 20 chances created. He has currently made 67 appearances in the Championship across the regular season and playoffs, notching eight goals, nine assists and 109 chances created while completing 73 dribbles at a 53.7 percent success rate.

A former Australia U-23 international, Armenakas graduated from the Academy at Serie A club Udinese before time with historic Greek club Panathanaikos early in his professional career. Prior to arriving in the United States, he competed for Vendsyssel FF in the Danish top flight.
