New Mexico United has acquired FC Dallas midfielder Tomas Pondeca on loan for the 2025 USL Championship season.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United announced on Monday it had acquired midfielder Tomas Pondeca on loan from FC Dallas of Major League Soccer for the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
Pondeca joins United having spent spent the last two seasons with Dallas and its MLS NEXT Pro reserve team, North Texas SC, after making the club through their open tryout in 2023. He made his MLS debut this past June 24 against FC Cincinnati before and made five appearances overall for the First Team between the MLS regular season and Leagues Cup play.
The 23-year-old has also recorded nine goals and five assists for North Texas in 43 appearances across the regular season and playoffs in the past two seasons. This past fall, he recorded one goal and two assists in four appearances during NTSC’s run to winning the MLS NEXT Pro title.
In addition, Pondeca is a star in the futsal world. The Texas native represented the United States Men’s National Futsal team at the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup having previously won the Young Player Award at the 2021 Concacaf Futsal Championship. He has represented his nation 17 times on the futsal court.
