Birmingham Legion FC's Matthew Corcoran and Sacramento Republic FC's Chibi Ukaegbu have been named to the United States U-20 Men's National Team training camp in West Palm Beach, Fla.
CHICAGO – Birmingham Legion FC midfielder Matthew Corcoran and Sacramento Republic FC defender Chibi Ukaegbu have been selected in the United States U-20 Men’s National Team’s first training camp of 2025, with the duo part of a 22-players squad named by Head Coach Marko Mitrović that will convene in West Palm Beach, Fla. between January 11-19.
The training camp is part of the build-up to the upcoming FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will be played in Chile between September 27 and October 19. Both Corcoran and Ukaegbu join the U.S. U-20s for the first time having most recently been part of the United States U-19 Men’s National Team camp held this past November.
Corcoran arrives set to enter his fourth season with Legion in the 2025 USL Championship campaign. The 18-year-old has made 47 appearances across the regular season and playoffs, notching one goal, four assists and 33 chances created in his role as a holding midfielder.
A former member of the FC Dallas Academy, Corcoran shone as part of the United States U-17 Men’s National Team as it competed at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup before an injury in preseason sidelined him for much of the 2024 campaign. He returned to action late in the season, notching one assist in nine appearances.
Ukaegbu, meanwhile, is set to build on a successful first year in the professional ranks after signing with Republic FC from the club’s Academy in 2023. The 17-year-old center back made nine appearances in the Championship and recorded 21 interceptions, 37 recoveries and 12 clearances while winning eight tackles at a 72.7 percent success rate.
“This is a well-deserved call up for Chibi and another opportunity to showcase his abilities at the highest level,” said Republic FC President and General Manager Todd Dunivant.
In addition to Corcoran and Ukaegbu, two former USL Championship players have also been named in the squad with defenders Ethan Kohler and Drew Murray each having competed for Oakland Roots SC before their respective transfers to German clubs Werder Bremen and Freiburg last year.
