EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC announced on Wednesday it had acquired defender Gabi Torres via transfer from fellow USL Championship club Phoenix Rising FC and signed him to a multi-year deal ahead of the 2025 season. The signing is pending league and federation approval, and the terms of the deal will not be disclosed per club policy.

The 28-year-old Brazilian arrives in the Sun City after a two-season stint with Phoenix Rising FC where he was a contributor in the team’s title-winning 2023 season. Torres recorded four goals and nine assists in 49 appearances for Rising, while also logging 38 chances created.

"Me and my family are happy to be moving to El Paso and I am excited to be a part of Coach [Wilmer] Cabrera’s plan,” said Torres. “I look forward to helping the team this season and the fans can expect dedication, intensity and commitment from me. We are going to work hard to put El Paso back into the playoffs this season.”

A graduate of Orlando City SC’s Academy, Torres had previously competed in the USL Championship for Hartford Athletic and FC Tulsa prior to his arrival in Phoenix via a transfer from Tulsa in September, 2022. He has made 102 appearances in the league across the regular season and playoffs, logging seven goals, 18 assists and 83 chances created.

"We’re excited to add Gabi to our group,” said Locomotive Technical Director Ray Saari. “His pace and quality service will be another great addition to our attack.”
