LEXINGTON, Ky. – Lexington SC announced on Wednesday it had acquired defender Joseph Hafferty via a transfer agreement from Las Vegas Lights FC ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
Hafferty played a key role in the Lights’ turnaround during the 2024 season, recording 29 appearances across the regular season and playoffs as the side advanced to the Western Conference Final of the 2024 USL Championship Playoffs. The 26-year-old won 31 tackles at an 81.6 percent success rate and recorded 29 interceptions, 90 clearances and 130 recoveries.
“I’m honored to join Lexington Sporting Club and be part of a new chapter for the team,” said Hafferty. “The opportunity to help build something special with Coach Boss and my new teammates is something I’m deeply committed to.”
Hafferty joined the Lights following an outstanding 2023 season with Austin FC II in MLS NEXT Pro, where he played a pivotal role in the team’s championship-winning campaign. He was voted to the league’s Best XI after making 31 appearances across the regular season and playoffs. With Austin, Hafferty recorded 40 tackles at a 64.5 percent success rate, 33 interceptions, and 172 recoveries.
“Joe is a winner and a high-level competitor,” said Lexington Head Coach Terry Boss. “He’s a tireless defender and his ability to break lines on the pass or dribble makes him difficult for the opposition’s first line to defend.”
