COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced on Thursday it had signed forward Levonte Johnson ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
Johnson joins the Switchbacks having most recently competed for Vancouver Whitecaps FC of Major League Soccer, where he made 35 appearances across the regular season and playoffs over the past two seasons. The 25-year-old also notched seven goals and one assist in 15 appearances for Whitecaps FC 2 while competing on loan in MLS NEXT Pro in 2023, earning WFC2’s Player of the Year award that season.
“I’m thrilled to join such an incredible team and be a part of a club. The fans and the energy they bring is amazing,” said Johnson. “It’s an honor to contribute to the winning culture here, and I’m excited to work alongside my new teammates to build on that success!”
In addition to his appearances in Major League Soccer, Johnson also saw action for the Whitecaps in the Canadian Championship and scored on his debut for the side against York United FC in the Quarterfinals against York United FC on the way to helping the side win the Voyageurs Cup.
Johnson had previously competed at Syracuse University, where he made 25 appearances and scored 11 goals with six assists. He played a key role in helping Syracuse win the NCAA Division I National Championship in 2022, and was a finalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy while also being named to the United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America, All-ACC First Team, and All-South Region First Team.
“We are delighted to have signed an MLS winger. We have scouted Levonte for nearly two years and tried to get him on loan,” said Switchbacks Sporting Director Stephen Hogan. “He is the perfect profile for how we play, and I am excited for us. More importantly, I am excited about his announcement to our league.”
