OAKLAND, Calif. – Oakland Roots announced on Tuesday the club had signed goalkeeper and Oakland native Kendall McIntosh ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

McIntosh returns to The Town for his 10th season in the professional ranks having most recently competed for fellow USL Championship club San Antonio FC. The 30-year-old has spent seven seasons in Major League Soccer while also building extensive experience in the USL Championship since turning pro with the Portland Timbers 2 in 2016.

“Kendall, comes to us with experience at the highest level of our game here in the United States,” said Roots Head Coach Gavin Glinton. “His experience, work ethic and connection to this city makes him a great fit for our Club.”

McIntosh has split time across MLS and the USL Championship in his career, signing with the Portland Timbers in 2017 before stints with the New York Red Bulls and Sporting Kansas City. He logged 22 appearances for SKC in the top flight, recording 47 saves and a save percentage of 73.1 percent.

Alongside that he made 82 appearance and recorded 305 saves in the USL Championship regular season while competing for T2, Red Bulls II and SKC before arriving in San Antonio prior to the 2024 season. McIntosh recorded nine appearances a season ago for SAFC, notching 27 saves and a save percentage of 63.4 percent.

“A lot of who I am comes from growing up in Oakland and Northern California,” said Kendall McIntosh. “Getting the opportunity to return home and play in a stadium I grew up attending is nothing short of special and a true full circle moment for me and my family.”
