EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC announced on Wednesday the club had signed defender Memo Diaz for the 2025 USL Championship season. The signing is pending league and federation approval, and the terms of the deal will not be disclosed per club policy.
Diaz’s arrival marks his second stint with the Locos, with the Borderland native having previously made 15 appearances for the club across the 2019 and 2020 campaigns.
“I’m very excited to be back with my hometown team and I can’t wait to get started,” said Diaz. “I hope to make an impact on and off the field and we need to believe – and make the city believe – that we can turn this club back to winning ways.”
Diaz spent the past four seasons with fellow USL Championship club Oakland Roots SC, where he recorded 116 appearances while recording five goals and 15 assists across 8,422 minutes of action. The 29-year-old also recorded 153 interceptions, 500 recoveries and won 135 tackles at a success rate of 63.7 percent.
“We’re very pleased with adding a player like Memo to the group who has continually improved throughout the course of his career which is a testament to his mentality and overall technical quality,” said Locomotive Technical Director Ray Saari. “Over the past two years, he has been one of the top point-producing wingbacks in the USL Championship & we’re excited to see what he can add to our attack for 2025.”
