PHOENIX – Phoenix Rising FC announced on Wednesday it had signed midfielder Damian Rivera to a multi-year contract ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
Rivera joins Rising after featuring prominently in 2024 season on loan with the Tampa Bay Rowdies in which he recorded six goals and three assists in 1,051 minutes across the regular season and playoffs. The 22-year-old’s five goals as a substitute tied for the league lead alongside new FC Tulsa signing Kalil ElMedkhar as he averaged a goal contribution every 116.8 minutes.
“Damian is a great person and a young, talented player,” said Phoenix Rising Head Coach Pa-Modou Kah. “He’s ambitious and has the ability to excite our fans with his quality. My staff and I are looking forward to working with him and helping him develop into the player we believe he can become.”
A product of the New England Revolution Academy, Rivera made his Major League Soccer debut in 2020. He has since appeared in 21 MLS matches, scoring one goal. Rivera also featured prominently for reserve team New England Revolution II where he recorded 17 goals in 54 appearances.
Rivera has also competed at the international level, most recently representing Costa Rica’s U-23 Men’s National Team.
“I’m thrilled to join Phoenix Rising,” said Rivera. “I love the city, and the club has a great reputation as an outstanding organization. I’m ready to contribute with goals and assists, and my focus is on helping the team win a championship. I can’t wait to bring my style to the pitch and connect with the fans.”
