Detroit City signs goalkeeper Carlos Herrera to multi-year deal

DETROIT – Detroit City FC announced on Tuesday it had signed goalkeeper Carlos Herrera on a two-year guaranteed contract ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Herrera joins DCFC after three seasons with fellow USL Championship side Monterey Bay F.C., where he recorded 34 appearances and 114 saves at a 66.9 save percentage. The 27-year-old recorded six shutouts for MBFC in the USL Championship regular season, including the first in club history in the 2022 season, while posting a -5.84 Goals Prevented mark, allowing 56 goals on an Expected Goals on Target Conceded mark of 50.16xGOTC.

Prior to joining the professional ranks, the San Leandro, Calif. native played two years of college soccer at Texas A&M International, where he went 16-10-5 in his two seasons and recorded 10 shutouts.
