DETROIT – Detroit City FC announced on Thursday the club had signed defender Shane Wiedt on a two-year contract. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Wiedt joins Le Rouge after spending the past two seasons in the USL Championship with Western Conference side Sacramento Republic FC, where he made 50 appearances across the regular season and playoffs, logging 3,579 minutes of action. Wiedt recorded 126 clearances and 58 interceptions while winning 30 tackles at a 69.8 percent success rate before his 2024 season was brought to a premature end by a broken clavicle.

Prior to joining Republic FC, the 29-year-old had competed in the USL Championship for Loudoun United and Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, with his two seasons with the Hounds seeing him help the side to a pair of postseason appearances. Wiedt has made 136 appearances and recorded 10,594 minutes of action in the Championship across the regular season and playoffs overall in his career.

Prior to the professional ranks, the Akron, Ohio native began his soccer career at the University of Akron in 2014. After redshirting his first college season, he played 1,793 minutes over 32 matches for the Zips. He helped the team win the MAC Tournament championship in all three seasons and contributed to its appearance in the College Cup in 2017. In 2018, Wiedt transferred to the University of Pittsburgh for his final year of college soccer.
