INDIANAPOLIS – Indy Eleven announced on Tuesday it had signed former Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC forward Edward Kizza ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Kizza produced a career season for Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC in the 2024 USL Championship season, scoring 12 goals in 34 appearances to place tied for ninth in the USL Championship. The Kampala, Uganda, native was a finalist for the Championship’s Player of the Month for October after scoring four goals in his team’s four victories that month. The Pitt collegiate product scored a goal in each of the Riverhounds last five matches of the regular season, helping his team to a 4-0-1 record to earn a playoff berth.

The 25-year-old will enter his fifth professional season with Indy, having begun his professional career with the New England Revolution after being selected in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of Pittsburgh. Kizza spent time on loan with the Hounds in 2022 where he recorded three goals in 12 appearances across the regular season and playoffs. Kizza signed a permanent deal with the Hounds in 2023 and recorded four goals in 29 appearances in his first full season with the club.

Analysis

New Indy Eleven signing Edward Kizza’s production shifted in line with his level of opportunity with Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC as his career-high in minutes resulted in a career-best 12 goals last season at Highmark Stadium. The 25-year-old’s mark wasn’t far off his Expected Goals mark of 10.63xG over the season as he caught form at the end of the regular season to fuel Pittsburgh’s run into a seventh consecutive postseason berth.

Kizza’s other numbers have remained relatively steady in proportion to his minutes. In each of his campaigns with Pittsburgh – including his loan stint in 2022 – his shooting accuracy rate sat in the 54 percent range every season while his seven goals across the 2022 and 2023 seasons came on an Expected Goals mark of 6.72xG. It might be too much to expect him to turn into a 20-goal scorer next year, but if Indy gives him consistent minutes and adequate service it should get solid production in the final third.
