Duo set for second season with United after each making impact in 2024 campaign


New Mexico United has exercised its contract options on defender Abdi Mohamed (left) and midfielder Marco Micaletto ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United announced on Monday the club had exercised contract options on defender Abdi Mohamed and midfielder Marco Micaletto for the 2025 USL Championship season. The transactions are pending league and federation approval.

Micaletto recorded 30 appearances across the USL Championship’s regular season and playoffs in his first season in New Mexico, recording one goal, four assists and 40 chances created. The attacking midfielder also ranked second on the team with 24 tackles won at a 68.6 percent success rate, posting a +3.07 Goals Added mark per American Soccer Analysis.

Mohamed made an impressive impact, after joining the club in May, meanwhile, leading United in appearances in the USL Championship Team of the Week during the regular season. A former USL League One title winner with Greenville Triumph SC, the Somali international recorded three goals, two assists and 14 chances created in attack while also recording 15 interceptions and 37 clearances in 22 appearances across the regular season and playoffs.
