COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced on Thursday it had signed attacking midfielder Jonas Fjeldberg to a new contract ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
Fjeldberg will enter his third season with the Switchbacks having been acquired by the club from Indy Eleven during the 2023 season. During the 2024 campaign, he recorded three goals, two assists and a career-high 23 chances created in a single-season high 23 appearances before a late-season injury saw him sidelined for the Switchbacks’ run to the 2024 USL Championship title.
“I’m very excited to return for another season,” said Fjeldberg. “Even though we won the championship I feel like I got unfinished business here. Missing out on that playoff run hurt deep but the boys got it done and now I’m ready to repeat.”
A native of Norway, Fjeldberg was selected by FC Cincinnati in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft after competing for the University of Dayton and in USL League Two for the Dayton Dutch Lions. He joined former USL Championship club Rio Grande Valley FC on loan and recorded three goals and one assist to help the Toros reach the playoffs that season.
The 26-year-old has recorded 15 goals and six assists in 77 appearances in the Championship overall, averaging a goal contribution every 187.6 minutes in the regular season during his career so far.
“We are delighted to have re-signed Jonas to a new deal,” said Switchbacks Sporting Director Stephen Hogan. “Jonas has had his ups and downs with injuries over the last year or so. But when his quality is on display, he is very hard to contain. His quality on the ball and his mindset to get his body right are amazing. We are very excited to see him in action next season.”
