Abdoulaye Diop signs multi-year contract extension with Detroit City

DETROIT – Detroit City FC announced on Tuesday it had signed midfielder Abdoulaye Diop to a new two-year contract with a club option for the 2027 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Since rejoining the club prior to the 2022 USL Championship season, Diop has been a crucial part of Le Rouge’s lineup in midfield and attack. The native of Senegal played a career-high 30 games for Detroit City in the 2024 season, recording 29 starts and 2,447 minutes of action has he notched two goals, two assists and 19 chances created while recording 37 tackles at a 67.3 percent success rate.

Diop originally joined DCFC in 2019 while the club was still in the amateur National Premier Soccer League. That season, he helped Detroit win the Great Lakes Division as he prepared for his collegiate career.

After two seasons in the USL Championship with Atlanta United 2, during which he played 26 games, Diop returned to Le Rouge before the club’s entry into league. Since rejoining, he has appeared in 83 matches for the club over three seasons of action.

So far in his Le Rouge career, Diop has appeared in 83 matches. He has scored four goals, accumulated two assists, and played 6,258 minutes for the club.
