Republic FC exercises contract options on Vitiello, Fernandes, Cicerone

Fourteen players set to return to Sacramento for 2025 season after club’s initial roster moves


Sacramento Republic FC has exercised contract options on goalkeeper Danny Vitiello, forward Russell Cicerone and midfielder Luis Felipe Fernandes for the 2025 USL Championship season.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Republic FC announced on Wednesday its initial roster moves for the 2025 USL Championship season, including exercising contract options on goalkeeper Danny Vitiello, midfielder Luis Felipe Fernandes and forward Russell Cicerone.

Overall, 14 players are set to return for the club’s 12th season. Defenders Lee Desmond, Jack Gurr and Chibi Ukaegbu, midfielders Nick Ross and Justin Portillo and forwards Trevor Amann, Da’vian Kimbrough, and Blake Willey were previously under contract, while goalkeeper Jared Mazzola, defender Jared Timmer and midfielder Cristian Parano also had contract options exercised.

“As we prepare for a new season, we’re in a strong position with the continuity of club veterans and rising talent,” said Republic FC President and General Manager Todd Dunivant. “Our sights remain laser focused on lifting silverware in 2025 and building a roster that sets us up for sustained success.”

Republic FC announced it will not exercise its contract options on defenders Conor Donovan and Jonathan Ricketts and forward Rafael Jauregui and Sebastian Herrera, and Jonathan Ricketts. The contracts for Damia Viader and Shane Wiedt will expire at the end of the 2024 season, while Kieran Phillips and Harvey Neville will return to their respective clubs following the completion of their loans.

Republic FC remains in active negotiations with Rodrigo Lopez, Aldair Sanchez, and Herrera to return for 2025.
