USL Championship Announces 2024 All-League Teams

Louisville City FC leads all clubs with five selections, 12 players earn All-League honors for the first time

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship announced the 2024 USL Championship All-League Teams on Wednesday, honoring players for their standout regular season performances after a campaign in which 12 players were selected to the All-League Team for the first time in their careers.

Louisville City FC led all clubs with five selections, including three players named to the All-League First Team. Defender Arturo Ordóñez and midfielder Taylor Davila each earned their second consecutive selections after joining the club this offseason, while 2020 Championship Young Player of the Year Wilson Harris earned his first selection after recording a career-high 19 goals for the Players’ Shield winner.

Ordóñez and Davila were joined by Sacramento Republic FC’s Jack Gurr, San Antonio FC’s Jorge Hernández and the Charleston Battery’s Aaron Molloy in earning a second consecutive selection to the All-League First Team, with Molloy’s his third consecutive First Team selection overall.

Molloy was joined by a pair of Battery teammates in the First Team. Defender Graham Smith earned his second selection overall after garnering Second Team honors in 2022, while forward Nick Markanich earned his first All-League honor after setting a USL Championship single season record with 28 goals in the regular season.

Each of the clubs set to feature this weekend in the Eastern and Western Conference Finals of the 2024 USL Championship Playoffs presented by Terminix will feature an All-League selection. The trio of Battery players are joined by All-League First Team selection Matt Mahoney of Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, and Second Team selections Noah Fuson of Rhode Island FC and J.C. Ngando of Las Vegas Lights FC.

The 2024 USL Championship All-League Team was voted on by club management and a league-wide media panel that included representation from every USL market.

2024 USL Championship All-League First Team

GK – Eric Dick, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (1st Selection): The Hounds’ shot-stopper earned the Golden Glove with a league-best 0.69 goals-against average, recorded 68 saves at a 79.1% save percentage, and tied for the league-lead with 14 shutouts, but most notably posted a 10.44 Goals Prevented mark, allowing only 18 tallies on an Expected Goals on Target Conceded mark of 28.44xGOTC.

D – Jack Gurr, Sacramento Republic FC (2nd Selection): The Republic FC wingback earned his second consecutive First Team selection after another stellar campaign in which he recorded a career-high eight assists on 52 chances created while also recording 27 tackles at a 65.9 percent success rate and 20 interceptions defensively. With Gurr in the starting lineup, Sacramento averaged 1.5 goals per game, while only 0.6 per game when he was absent.

D – Matt Mahoney, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (1st Selection): A defensive mainstay for the Switchbacks over the past four seasons, Mahoney was the lone outfield player to play every minute of the regular season as he led the Championship with 68 interceptions and ranked fifth in clearances with 135, guiding the Switchbacks to their highest finish in the Western Conference in club history.

D – Arturo Ordóñez, Louisville City FC (2nd Selection): The 2023 Championship Defender of the Year earned his second consecutive First Team selection after an offseason move to Louisville City FC as he ranked third in the league among defenders in Aerial Duels won with 105 at a 66.2 percent success rate while also recording 113 clearances and 47 interceptions and scoring a pair of goals.

D – Graham Smith, Charleston Battery (2nd Selection): An offseason arrival with the Battery, Smith starred for one of the best defenses in the regular season, ranking second in the league with 152 clearances and 113 aerial duels won at a success rate of 75.8 percent and third in the league with 1,804 passes completed at an 86.8 percent accuracy rate as he started every game of the campaign.

M – Taylor Davila, Louisville City FC (2nd Selection): Davila earned his second consecutive First Team selection after starring for LouCity as it won the Players’ Shield and set club records for wins (24) and points (76), recording seven goals and six assists from central midfield while ranking second in the league with 75 chances created and notching 26 interceptions and 201 recoveries.

M – Jorge Hernández, San Antonio FC (3rd Selection): The attacking playmaker earned his second consecutive First Team selection as he continued to be one of the most influential midfielders in the league, ranking first in chances created with 83 and second in assists with nine while also recording 31 interceptions and winning 30 tackles at a success rate of 73.2 percent.

M – Aaron Molloy, Charleston Battery (3rd Selection): The do-it-all Irish playmaker earned his third consecutive First Team selection after ranking fourth in the league with 70 chances created and notching two goals and three assists while also sitting tied for fifth in the league with 50 tackles won at a 64.1 percent success rate, recording 199 recoveries and 164 duels won at a 57.1 percent success rate.

M - Maxi Rodriguez, Detroit City FC (1st Selection): The veteran midfielder was rewarded for a career season in which he posted single-season highs of 10 goals and five assists to help drive Le Rouge to their best finish since joining the Championship, while also logging 24 chances created, 27 interceptions and 134 recoveries from the center of the park.

F – Wilson Harris, Louisville City FC (1st Selection): The 24-year-old continued his rise up the Championship’s all-time scoring list with a career single-season best 19 goals and 21 goals contributions in the regular season. Harris also posted a 63.4 percent shooting accuracy rate and 27.9 percent shot conversion rate while equaling single-season highs with 86 shots and 20 chances created.

F – Nick Markanich, Charleston Battery (1st Selection): Markanich produced a season for the record books as he recorded a Championship single-season record 28 goals and also notched five assists as he led the league with 50 shots on target and posted a shooting accuracy rate of 59.5 percent and shot conversion rate of 33.3 percent. He also did stellar work defensively, ranking ninth in the league with 188 duels won while winning 37 tackles at a 63.9 percent success rate and winning possession 35 times in the attacking third, the most in the league.

2024 USL Championship All-League Second Team

GK – Danny Vitiello, Sacramento Republic FC (2nd Selection): The 2023 Championship Goalkeeper of the Year earned his second consecutive All-League selection as he tied for the league lead with 14 shutouts and recorded 88 saves at a save percentage of 74.6 percent, while also recording a 5.97 Goals Prevented mark over the course of the campaign.

D – Devon Amoo-Mensah, Detroit City FC (1st Selection): The longtime DCFC center back led the club in minutes played during the campaign, ranked fourth in the Championship with 147 clearances, fifth in the league with 103 aerial duels won at a 70.1 percent success rate and in the Top 20 with 172 duels won at a 61 percent success rate while also recording 36 interceptions and 120 recoveries as Detroit allowed only 32 goals in 34 regular season contests, second-fewest in the regular season.

D – Ezra Armstrong, North Carolina FC (1st Selection): The left-sided wingback provided a dynamic presence as NCFC returned to the Championship, recording five goals, six assists and 24 chances created while defensively he recorded 38 interceptions, 143 recoveries and won 155 duels and 39 tackles across the regular season.

D – Pape Mar Boye, Phoenix Rising FC (1st Selection): The 20-year-old rookie shifted impressively into the professional ranks after turning pro following winning the College Cup with Clemson last fall in Phoenix, recording 119 clearances and 31 interceptions while winning 83 aerial duels and posting a passing accuracy rate of 86.2 percent on 1,449 completed passes.

D – Sean Totsch, Louisville City FC (5th Selection): The veteran center back earned his fifth consecutive selection to the All-League Team after another sterling campaign for the Players’ Shield winners. Totsch recorded 70 clearances and 27 interceptions while posting a duel success rate of 63.9 percent, an aerial duel success rate of 70.1 percent and a tackle success rate of 68.1 percent while also scoring seven times, the most of any defender in the regular season.

M – Noah Fuson, Rhode Island FC (1st Selection): The league newcomer made an immediate impact for the first-year club, winning the Championship’s Golden Playmaker award with 10 assists while also chipping in eight goals to help the side reach the postseason. Fuson’s 18 goal contributions ranked fourth in the league in the regular season as he led the team with 50 chances created.

M – Bruno Lapa, Memphis 901 FC (2nd Selection): The Brazilian had a career season for 901 FC as he notched 11 goals and five assists to lead the side to a third-place finish in the Western Conference while also ranking third in the league with 73 chances created, tied for fifth with 14 big chances created, and eighth in goal contributions while posting a shooting accuracy rate of 55.8 percent.

M – J.C. Ngando, Las Vegas Lights FC (1st Selection): The Cameroonian midfielder played a key role in the Lights’ turnaround campaign. Ngando recorded two goals and five assists and led the league with 17 big chances created while ranking fifth with 67 chances created overall. Defensively, he recorded 32 interceptions and 191 recoveries while completing 1,444 passes at an 81.9 percent success rate.

M – Elijah Wynder, Louisville City FC (1st Selection): The 21-year-old LouCity Academy product came into his own as an essential part for the Players’ Shield winner, recording a career-best six goals and 23 chances created while ranking fifth in the league in duels won with 199 at a 53.6 percent success rate. Wynder also recorded 30 interceptions, 154 recoveries and 37 tackles at a 66.1 percent success rate.

F – Manuel Arteaga, Tampa Bay Rowdies (1st Selection): The Venezuelan forward’s first season with Tampa Bay saw him record career-highs with 17 goals and 37 chances created. Arteaga ranked third in the league with 104 shots and posted a shooting accuracy rate of 55.4 percent while notching a 21.5 percent shot conversion rate as part of one of the league’s top two attacking tandems.

F – Cal Jennings, Tampa Bay Rowdies (2nd Selection): Jennings earned his second consecutive All-League honor after ranking fourth in the league with 15 goals and recording a league-high 115 shots in the regular season. The Atlanta native’s work off the ball also paid dividends for the Rowdies as work leading the press saw him record a league-high +13.77 Goals Added mark per American Soccer Analysis.
