Birmingham Legion FC midfielder Matthew Corcoran and Sacramento Republic FC defender Chibi Ukaegbu have been named in the United States U-19 Men’s National Team squad that will attend training camp in West Palm Beach, Fla. between November 11-17.
The call-up marks a return to the U.S. youth national team set-up for Corcoran, who impressed for the United States U-17s at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup before suffering an injury in preseason that ruled him out for much of the 2024 campaign.
Corcoran returned to the Legion lineup late in the regular season and recorded one assist in 130 minutes of action across five appearances for the side. The native of Dallas, Texas – who elected to turn pro with Legion in 2022 from the FC Dallas academy – Corcoran has made 47 appearances in the Championship so far in his career, recording one goal, four assists and 33 chances created while notching a passing accuracy rate of 82.7 percent and a 63.8 percent tackle success rate.
Ukaegbu remains in the U-19s squad having previously been part of the side’s trip to Spain in October for games against Sweden and Japan. A Republic FC Academy graduate, the 17-year-old made his USL Championship debut this season and made nine appearances overall, including starting and playing the full 120 minutes in Republic FC’s Western Conference Quarterfinal against Las Vegas Lights FC last Friday night.
During his first professional campaign, Ukaegbu logged 700 minutes of action, recorded 21 interceptions and 37 recoveries and won eight tackles at a 72.7 percent success rate.
Additionally, Orange County SC defender Pedro Guimaraes was on Thursday named to the United States U-17 Men’s National Team squad that will also gather in West Palm Beach, Fla. for training camp between Nov. 10-16.
Guimaraes joined the professional ranks with Orange County this past August from the Los Angeles FC Academy. The 16-year-old has made six appearances for OCSC ahead of the club’s Western Conference Semifinal against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday night, winning 16 duels at a 59.3 percent success rate and seven tackles at a 63.6 percent success rate while also notching four interceptions and nine recoveries.
