TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Championship today announced Detroit City FC’s Danny Dichio had been awarded the Championship’s Coach of the Month award for September after his side claimed three victories in four outings during an undefeated month that put Le Rouge within range of clinching their third consecutive trip to the USL Championship Playoffs.
In his first season at the helm, Dichio has pushed Le Rouge up the Eastern Conference standings and put the side in position to finish with its most wins and points since it joined the USL Championship in 2022 with three games to play in the campaign. In September, the side conceded only once in four outings as it took home victories against current Western Conference leader New Mexico United and Players’ Shield winner Louisville City FC in consecutive outings.
“I was just super-proud of the guys, the way they pulled it out tonight,” said Dichio following the victory against Louisville. “We’ve got burned a couple of times this year at home, and now to beat the top of the West and the top of the East at home going into the last five games of the season gives us a lot of good momentum.”
The award is Dichio’s second of the season, having also earned the award in March as he led Detroit to a five-game winning streak to start the campaign. The former Premier League striker, who most recently served as an assistant coach at Sacramento Republic FC before joining Detroit this past offseason, will next lead his side into a key top-four clash this Saturday afternoon as Indy Eleven visits Keyworth Stadium at 4 p.m. ET.
Dichio earned the award with 67 percent of the ballot. Hartford Athletic’s Brendan Burke finished second on 21 percent as his side completed an undefeated month in which it did not concede a goal, earning two wins and two draws to remain in the hunt for the postseason in the Eastern Conference.
The USL Championship’s Coach of the Month award is voted upon by the USL Championship National Media Panel and the USL Championship Technical Committee, with each group responsible for 50 percent of the overall vote.
